The ancient Castle of Esmans, a fortified farm

The manor of the eighth century or rather priory which serves stately home does not allow abbots to defend themselves against the ravages of the Middle Ages. The Norman invasions make it even more necessary to establish a military stronghold. So to the thirteenth century that the castle was built, massive feudal fortress in the form of a vast parallelogram flanked by a large projecting tower at the four corners. Two towers and defend the single narrow entrance, preceded by a glance at the moat bridge. Openings which pass strings for the drawbridge are still visible as the grooves where the vertically sliding iron portcullis.
