The royal castle of Fontainebleau is a castle of Renaissance and classical styles mainly adjacent to the city center of Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne), about sixty miles southeast of Paris, France. The first traces of a castle dating back to Fontainebleau in the twelfth century. The latest work was done in the nineteenth century.

High place in the history of France, the Château de Fontainebleau was one of the homes of French monarchs from François I st (who made his home favorite) to Napoléon III. Several kings have left their mark on the construction and history of the castle, which is thus an indicator of the different phases of the history of France since the Middle Age ...
